Why did I stop watching this show…

alliterationandalcohol asked: I heard you're supporting Catholics cuz you're dating one. Yes? No?

Actually no. I’m not supporting Catholics, I actually disagree with them on the use of contraception and several other issues. It’s a Constitutional stance. As Evelyn Beatrice Hall put it: “ I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.”

In the same way, I may not agree with the Church’s stance on the use of contraceptives but I believe in religious freedom. This country was founded on religious freedom and escaping religious persecution (Puritans/Quakers anyone?). We must protect religious freedom which the framers felt important enough to list 1st in the Bill of Rights. From a Constitutional stance the Catholic Church is 100% right in feeling that they are being forced to support something that they are religiously and morally against

Employer Provided Contraceptives

“Because the Catholic church teaches that sterilization, contraception or abortion are wrong and that Catholics must not be involved in them, the regulation forces Catholics—and members of other religious denominations that share those views—to act against the teachings of their faith. Numerous lawsuits have already been asserting that the rule violates the First Amendment’s guarantee to the free exercise of religion. Many of the nation’s Catholic bishops have published letters saying: ‘We cannot—we will not—comply with this unjust law.’

Sebelius, however, insisted that the mandate ‘upholds religious liberty.’

‘The rule which we intend to promulgate in the near future around implementation will require insurance companies, not a religious employer, but the insurance company to provide coverage for contraceptives,’ Sebelius told the subcommittee.”

Let’s see if we can follow this logic:

Catholic Church doesn’t support contraceptives and abortion.

Health Czar says the Church doesn’t have to pay for these things, therefore it isn’t a violation of religious freedom. Health Czar says insurance company must pay for these things.

But Catholic Church must pay for health insurance company for its employees. This health insurance company pays for contraceptives and abortion.

So… Catholic Church must pay for the health insurance which pays for contraceptives and abortion, which is against their religious beliefs but this isn’t a violation of religious freedom..?

So glad that’s all cleared up…

Apparently my gf thinks I’m too scenic, so I’ll get a little more consumerism in here.

1. The “Medicare Reform” Obama has introduced will only worsen the deficit problems already associated with Medicare/Medicaid. Not to mention the constitutionality of a sector of government which is supposed to be left to the States. Most of the “reforms” Obama has made have been suggested to apply to private section insurance but those reforms were blocked by Democrats.
2. Iraq was a success due to Bush’s plan “the surge” in 2007 that turned its course from negative to positive, a plan which Democrats opposed. Obama campaigned on promises that he would have all troops out of Iraq by the end of 2009 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4WYTKj8pU5M). The last “troops” pulled out of Iraq left on December 2011. Two years after what he promised. And it should be noted that thousands of private security contractors paid for by the United States have taken their place since then. So we’re still very much there.
Afghanistan has been called “Obama’s war” even by liberal commentators because of his decision to take on the war with a different strategy (and not take his commanders recommendations). General McCrystal, proponent of the counter-insurgency doctrine and Supreme Commander of the coalition forces in Afghanistan up until 2010, was fired by Obama. Before he was fired, McCrystal publicly asked for additional troops to win the war (which Obama refused) and later made comments about how the administration was making it impossible for the war to be won by not listening to reports from commanders on the ground. The intelligence community (17 different agencies) has collectively recently released a report describing the situation now in Afghanistan as a stalemate.
3. Forcing all employers including churches that are morally opposed, to pay for things such as contraceptives, is a Constitutional violation of separation of Church and State. That’s why it’s an issue.
4. The “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy was enacted under Clinton. It was a compromise, which I think helped to some degree. I personally find it a difficult issue because I believe in equal rights, but being in the military myself, I see the difficulties of allowing openly gay citizens in the military. The same goes for women in the military in combat roles. There are certain aspects of being in the infantry that people who work in the civilian world just don’t get. Everything from carrying 80 pounds of gear on your back, to sleeping in holes in the ground with your buddy to keep warm, to developing complete trust, to living together with absolutely no privacy for weeks or months. So understand there was a reason beyond sexism or homophobia that many people in military opposed the repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell and why many are still opposed to women filling combat roles in the infantry.
5. Promoting clean energy in principle is a good thing. But when one does it at the expensive of America’s industry competitive edge, you destroy thousands of American jobs. When it becomes so expensive for a company to abide by environmental regulations in the United States, those jobs move overseas or across our borders to countries with much worse environmental protections than we currently have. Obama’s regulatory schemes, such as Cap and Trade are unworkable until international agreements are signed so we play on a level playing field.
6. The U.S. Department of Education is a joke. They spend millions of dollars on “research” for things like drug use. Remember those surveys in high school that everyone had to take all the time? The ones where everyone lied and just wrote all sort of crazy shit on them? Millions of dollars.
The Constitution of the United States implicitly says that the education policy is reserved for the states. Disband the US Dep. of Education and give that money to the states and to the schools. Teachers and superintendents know how to spend money on education better than some bureaucrats in Washington.
The College Aid policies are more discriminatory than ever. It is backwards racism to say that an African American student deserves more aid than a Caucasian when they have the same family income. You don’t right a wrong with a wrong.
7. Tax Code. Here we go. Let’s cut away the rhetoric for a second.
There are 6 tax brackets. 10%, 15%, 25%, 28%, 33% & 35%. They depend on how much income you made in a particular year. So let’s take Bobby who made $5000 and Sam who made $500,000.
Bobby falls into the 10% tax bracket. So he pays 10% taxes on the money he made.
Sam falls into the 35% tax bracket. So he pays 35% taxes on the money he made.
Guess who’s paying more? Sam. Because he made more. Guess who’s paying a large portion of his income? Sam. Because he’s in higher tax bracket.
Still don’t get it?
If Bobby made $5,000 and Sam $500,000 and they were both taxed at 10%, guess who would pay more? Sam would. Sam would pay $50,000 and Bobby would pay $500. So all this “fair share” stuff is crap. Even if they had exactly the same income tax bracket at 10%, Sam would still pay $49,500 more than Bobby. And hey, guess what? They’re not in the same tax bracket. Sam actually has to pay into the 35% tax bracket, so he has to pay $175,000 in taxes.
Before you go on and say Bobby shouldnt have to pay $500, let me be clear. He doesn’t. He can get a deduction on his income for being below the poverty line, so he ends up paying nothing in taxes. Which is the case for a lot of people.
46% of Americans don’t pay any taxes. Look it up. Guess who picks up the bill?
But I guess the rich still aren’t taxed enough, right?

8. Obama “adding jobs” is a joke. Yeah, he added jobs, but he also lost jobs. And guess what? He’s lost more jobs than he’s made. Seriously. The unemployment rate in the United States has gone from 7.8% when he took office to 8.3% according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. This stuff is on the internet, it’s not difficult to look up, I promise.
I didn’t vote for him before and I won’t vote for him again.
And sorry I didn’t write this in multi colored markers on a piece of whiteboard, but really.
